Cotton Bags made by Sathya Handicrafts
All our cotton bags are made by Sathya Handicrafts, the sewing unit set up for tsunami survivors in the village of Chinna Mudaliar Chavadi, near Pondicherry. Vandanamu Fair Trade sends all its receipts for these goods back to the village (the staff of Vandanamu Fair Trade all being volunteers who do not claim expenses). There, all income remaining after payment of operating costs, incuding fair wages, is given as Fair Trade Premiums to the workers and as Social Premiums of more general benefit.

Screen-Printed Bags
These bags, made of a good-quality unbleached cotton in its natural colour, can be printed on one or both sides, with your own designs. There are three standard styles:
- The shopping bag of the usual kind, with two handle straps. Unless otherwise specified the bags are of size 40 cm by 40 cm.
Since the bags are hand-made some variations to the standard designs can be accommodated, such as different sizes, different strap lengths, different gusset widths etc.
The images for screen-printing are supplied by customers in electronic form, for instance as JPG files. Usually, an image is printed on one side only of the bags, in a single colour chosen from a wide range by the customer. However, at a small extra cost bags can be printed on both sides, and in several colours. The minimum order size is 50 bags. Advice is provided, without charge, in the preparation of images for printing.
Coloured Organic Cotton Bags
These bags made of organic cotton are usually of the same dimensions as the shoulder bags described above, with long or short handles. They are available in several colours, obtained using vegetable dyes only.
